11 Reasons You’re Not Hired and How to Fix Them

11- You Need References

A potential reason you may have not been hired in the past is that other applicants had references to back up their applications while you didn’t. Now may be the time to gather some references that you can whip out at your next job posting. Hiring managers like to see references because they can back up your skills and experiences. Without them, it may be hard for a manager to determine how legit your experiences actually are.

To get started, make a list of people you can reach out to who can write a solid recommendation for you, like former bosses, coworkers, professors, and whoever you’ve closely worked with in the past. Remind your references of any experiences you’ve had together or want to emphasize and make them aware of the job you’re applying to.
