9- You Didn’t Have an Industry Connection

These days, getting a job relies less on your application and interview and more on the industry connections you have. If you weren’t hired before, it might simply be due to the reason that other applicants had industry referrals and you didn’t. More and more companies are setting up referral programs to acquire new talent because the track record and success of referred employees are usually higher than those through traditional job postings.

It’s more important now than ever to build strong networking skills and relationships. Go attend some conferences and industry events to connect with those who’ll enthusiastically give you leads and referrals in the future. Don’t forget to ask for their permission to use their name when your employer asks who referred you. Never forget the phrase that your network is your net worth. Your network can also include your friends and family and using an app like LinkedIn can greatly provide a way for you to connect with hundreds of professionals and recruiters. The more you let others know of what you’re looking for professionally, the more opportunities you will find.
